Welcome to HKB Meng’s Martial Arts of Cincinnati. We teach Hek Ki Boen Eng Chun (Black Flag Wing Chun). Our Linage, in the U.S., is headed by Grand Master Kenneth Lin. Our training process is referred to as the “Shaolin Halls” method that was developed by Grand Master Benny Meng.
Great analysis!
Footwork is always underrated, but you cannot use your weapons effectively if you do not understand positioning.
yes she practices a Japanese art, but Rousey has great kung fu (skill developed over time through hard work). Also, she has chong, lao and yi (forward energy, flow, shapes). 7 wins by 7 armbars out of 7 fights= good kung fu.
As previously mentioned, I did watch the fights at the local BW3. Regarding the hendo/dragon fight, frankly I was bored, but I learned a lot about combat sports, specifically how competitors can at will determine whether the match will be more sport or combat. I’m going to go ahead and say this:…
Although I do agree that many times the winner isn’t always the better fighter, I’d have to disagree with your statement on combat.
There are many different forms of combat and so many different styles. Machida’s style is frustrating to his opponents, and he knows this. Look, you can’t say it wasn’t combat just because someone didn’t get knocked out and because Lyoto didn’t stand and trade. Yes, he played the game well and slowly but surely scored points to get the decision, but it would be foolish to try to stand and bang with Hendo. So yes, Machida was the better sportsman, but he was also the better fighter. He was able to do what he does best without taking major damage and frustrated Hendo. The latter kept trying what didn’t work, like a rookie.
Interesting points of view…discuss!
